It’s hard for the typical American guy to wrap their minds around, but yes, there are male supermodels. But like their female counterparts though, there are very few. Gone are the days of the real “supermodels.” For the women, even the famous models nowadays will find it hard to compete with the few, the true-blue handful that really personified the term. Male supermodels have it even harder than the womenfolk. For one, as glamorous as the job sounds, this is the one job in the world where the guys don’t get paid as much as the women do, the one and only. Still, it’s nothing to cry over. As it is, they earn very good money to take care of themselves, to look good, hopefully walk well, and definitely, to be photogenic—or at least learn their angles. That’s pretty much all that’s required. Naturally, a male microdermabrasion machine model with good manners and a great attitude will fare better; as with any workplace, nobody likes to work with an unprofessional, negative, and inconsiderate slob. But, many have also continued to model, well past what most would say, their “prime.” This is the true proof of their beauty. Even as truly masculine and emanating unquestionable maleness, they age beautifully and use it to their advantage. Not by trying to hold on to youth that’s not there but by showing vigor and power in their maturity. Showing off well-tended bodies and properly taken care of skin, these male supermodels look better than most guys half their age. Their longevity is also what sets them apart. In an industry well known for its shallowness, today’s hottest model maybe tomorrow’s burnout. The lifestyle is also not necessarily conducive to an enriching and healthy way of life. Most of these models start out very young and extremely impressionable. They get into the modeling industry and the glitzy life sweeps them off their feet. They immediately have access to money and very likely, have no idea how to properly handle it. They meet people, work, travel, and party. That’s the usual cycle of their lives. Many fall through the cracks, and develop certain bad habits. Few find long lasting and successful careers. That models are bimbos are both a myth and a fact. It’s half true. Half of them have nothing between the ears. Watch any of those modeling competitions on TV and you’ll soon understand why. That’s why those programs are making money, morbid curiosity. Aside from the good-looking people, you’re both repulsed and attracted by them and somehow, want to find out what will happen next. Again, this is what separates a male supermodel from your run-of-the-mill model types; obviously, they think. Otherwise, maneuvering the often-capricious world of fashion will be too much for them to handle. There are too many seasons, clients, relationships, trends, to navigate and a successful male supermodel does all that.
